Me and my girlfriend have been dating for 5 months. I turned 18 on the 4th month. She’ll turn 16 in March. But right now she’s 15 and I’m 18. She’s scared that if her dad finds out we’re dating he’ll try to put a case on me. Her mom knows about us dating but he doesn’t. We just had to break up because both her and her mom were afraid that he’d be able to put me in jail. Is this illegal and can he put a case on me?
As an adult dating a minor you have significant risk. Even more so if you are engaging in sexual activity. Either stop immediately or first consult a criminal defense lawyer before any more dating and physical contact and suggestive conversations. I changed your topic from civil rights to criminal defense.

It is not illegal for a 15 and 18 year old to date, and to be convicted of statutory rape in Tennessee, there has to be a four year difference in age. However, you have to be careful about doing anything that could be considered contributing to the delinquency of a minor, such as encouraging her to smoke cigarettes, disobey her parents, stay out past curfew, etc. If one of her parents does not want you to date, it could be a legal issue if you continue.
