I was announced management 2 days ago and got written up for things 2-3 weeks ago. I didn’t get a copy of the write up and wasn’t given time to read the write up. What are my legal Wright’s? Is this ok that I was blamed for things I wasn’t in charge of?
You likely are an at will employee. In at will employment, either the employee or the employer can end the employment relationship at any time for any reason with or without notice. The employer is prohibited from committing unlawful discrimination.
As long as the employer is not committing unlawful discrimination, it can blame you for nonsensical things such as rain or snow. So, the employer almost certainly can blame you for things when you were not formally in charge.
Employees (including former employees) in WA have the right to review their personnel file during reasonable times. To exercise your right, you need to give notice to the employer. Employees may also insert a statement in their personnel file to dispute the information the employer has there.
More information is at http://www.lni.wa.gov/WorkplaceRights/Wages/PayReq/PersonnelRec/default.asp .
What work your employer does should not affect your rights as an employee.
