My friend took a plea for multiple misdemeanors and wants to know if he has any options aside from his current track. He has never seen his case files and doesn’t feel he was given a fair shot in court
Your friend should seek counsel on the possibility of a motion to withdraw his/her plea (as opposed to an appeal).

If there was a plea, chances are he can't appeal. But he may have other options. He would need to hire a private criminal lawyer to get his files and review his case to determine if he did in fact get a bad deal, and file as appropriate to move forward. Keep in mind that even if his plea is removed, that means he will have to stand trial on the original charges.

Your friend can't appeal a plea, but may be able to withdraw it and reopen the case. He should have a defense attorney review the case and discuss whether there are any grounds to pursue a motion to vacate his plea.

Many cases, but not all cases. An appeal must be based on an appealable issue i.e. abuse of discretion, clear error. If your friend want to rescind his pleadings, he could expose himself to further legal liability. This not something that should be done without the advice of legal counsel.
Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.
