I'm a teacher. Yesterday, a 16-year-old student told me that her boyfriend is 21. I said, "He's way too old for you, and I think he could be charged with a crime." She said that, since the age of consent in Maryland is 16, it's not a problem. Is she right, or should I contact someone? (Her mother already knows.)
Go ahead and "contact someone" like the police and child protective services. They'll either do something or they won't. In the meantime, teacher, try typing "age of consent in MD" into google and form your own opinion. Even if the sex is legal, the 21 year old might be committing other crimes like when he plys the girl with alcohol and drugs before he violates her. Good chance there's alcohol involved right? The great "social lubricant" as it were. Make your reports.

The age of consent is 16 in maryland. If she were 15 and he was 21 it would be a criminal act. It is not a good situation, but legally nothing can be done.
Sixteen is the age of consent in Maryland. Hopefully the man is avoiding applicable sexual activity with this sixteen year old woman in such states as Virginia where the age of consent is higher. Ironically, even though sixteen is the age of consent in Maryland, if this man photographs or films himself having sex with this woman, he then exposes himself to a child pornography prosecution.
