The difference would be 4 years 2 months and some odd days. I heard it is not illegal to date it's just illegal to have sexual contact and intercourse with the 17 year old. Is that true?

The Iowa legal Age of Consent for sexual contact is 16 years old. Legally, it appears you are OK. However, just because you can, does not mean your should. What about her parents? Think they would approve?
The age of consent in most circumstances is 16 in Iowa. Strange how the other attorneys assumed the 21 year old is the male, though gender is conspicuously absent from the question, and that it is the 21 year old asking the question.
