In Georgia can a father that still has parental rights to a child stop the mother from having the child's name changed?

I agree with my colleague. The father should consult with an attorney regarding the proper course of action to try and prevent this from taking place.

The father needs to retain an attorney to contest the name change. She cannot legally do it without the father's consent, unless she tells the court that has been gone, without visits or support, for 5 years. Whether that is true or not, he needs to contest it. The Judge does not know if she is telling the truth,
