Worked for Macy's my associate was on vacation! He normally gave these specific clients who purchased volumes from Macy's...discounts. I gave discounts and was fired for giving too deep of discount, but there was no written rule sometime it was discretion. I have never been in trouble with law. I was asked to have customers return the merchandise and they did. do not know what they returned. Do not know how they came up with the amount I'm being sued for... was embarrassed! It started out I owed the company $20,000 I am now being sued for $11,000. I brought merchandise in volumes while working there. I did not deliberately try to commit fraud against the company.
It is unclear why you are being sued, but you should never settle anything based on a verbal agreement. It appears that this stems from your employment and the discounts you gave customers, but whether you acted outside the scope of your employment in giving the discounts would be a question of fact. If they thought you were stealing they would file criminal charges, but it doesn't appear from your statement that they did that. I changed the topic to Employment Law but I strongly advise you to not talk to their attorneys directly but arrange a consultation with a local Employment Law attorney to advise you the best route to take.
