If you have a work/comp. claim and still off from work (slip and fall back injury)when will be the last date to hire an attorney

There is no time limit for when to hire an attorney but generally, the earlier the better. This is especially true if you are going to go to a PQME. The selection of the PQME doctor is a critical step in your case and should only be done iwth the advice of a workers' comp. attorney. You can find a good attorney here at avvo or at www.caaa.org. CAAA is the California Appilcants' Attorneys Association....attorneys who represent injured workers.
There may be other issues involved in your case that you don't even know about and the insurance company is not going to alert you to. Consult an attorney. Good Luck.
There isn't a specific deadline for hiring an attorney, but I'd recommend consulting with one as soon as you can. You'll want to give an attorney time to review your case before your medical treatment ends and the insurance company tries to close/settle your claim. You have the right to represent yourself but I believe you have a better chance at a beneficial outcome with an attorney looking out for you. An experienced workers' compensation attorney will know how to work with the insurance company. So find someone who focuses their practice on work injuries. I'm licensed in Illinois, but I know attorneys near you who can help. Please contact me if you'd like a recommendation.
