Getting a marriage license does not mean you are married. Did you actually get married? That is the question. If you got married, you are married and if you no longer want to be married, you will need to get a divorce. In addition, if you have been holding out as married, you should contact a local family law attorney. The attorney can tell you if your situation is an informal (common law) marriage. If so, and you no longer want to to be married, you will have to get a divorce.
