I’m currently a police officer looking for a better job I have a dui on my record 6 years ago. I applied for a job and got accepted for the job. Then the new employer said I can’t have the job due to my dui convictions.the new employer called my current employer. Asking why did they higher this guy knowing that I have a dui on my record. The question is can I sue that person for trying to start trouble at my job now even though my job knows about my convictions. What would the charge be called I know it can’t be considered slander because it’s the truth I do have a conviction. What do I got on this person if I have anything
There are restrictions on what an employer may reveal about a former employee. However, I cannot say whether or not you have a cause of action for damages. Employment law is not my area of expertise. I refer those cases to Lisa Bertini in VA Beach. 222-9165
