I live with my dad and I am on the lease. I left for 3 days and came back to the locks being changed and my dad won’t let me in to get the rest of my things. When I tried to talk to the landlord he wouldn’t tell me anything or help me at all. I just wanted to know if I physically have to be there to get off the lease and if I’m allowed to go into the property to get the rest of my things.
If you are, as you say, on the lease, you have the right to enter the property. If you move out, you will still be liable for the rent. Is there a third person that could approach your dad to see if the issue can be resolved? Unless the landlord has let you off the lease, you still have rights and obligations and you certainly have the right to get your property out of the property. You need something in writing from the landlord -- amendment to the lease. If there is not third person, maybe a family member to help resolve the situation, you are going to have to see an attorney. A phone call may get your permission to get your property. If not, you may have to file a lawsuit. Discuss all this with an attorney who will want to know why this happened.
