If an 18 year old (victim during past years) reports molestation to the police, are his/her parents notified?
There is no clear answer. That would be a fact sensitive situation that would depend on numerous facors including the needs I the investigation and the desires of the victim.

I don't believe it is legally required as the victim is now 18 years old. However, I can envision situations where the parents learn of the allegations during the investigation. The police will be investigating to determine if there may be additional victims and to verify (corroborate) as much of the accusations as possible. If you were a minor when the molestation took place, the likely place they will turn to for corroboration is your parents. This should not dissuade you from reporting the incident and making sure this person doesn't harm any other children. It may also help in your healing process.

There is no legal requirement that the parents or any other related person be notified of reports of molestation. Of course, during the course of any investigation, they, and many others may become aware of it.
They are not going to be notified b/c of the law but likely contacted by Detectives during the investigation!

Nothing requires them to be notified but it is more than likely that they will find out during the course of the investigation.
