I was recently arrested for theft and the arresting officer marked my paperwork as domestic violence confidential which I assumed meant the arrest would be kept confidential and out of the newspapers.
I'm not sure why a theft complaint was checked off as domestic violence. Nonetheless, the police departments will sometimes report arrests to media outlets.
I agree with my colleague. There is some confusion as to how a theft could be a domestic violence.
I agree with my colleagues. theft is not one of the enumerated charges under DV 2C:25-19. (burglary is but not theft). The confidential marking I think means the "victims" contact information is kept confidential. I do not think it has to do with media release, but I could be wrong. call with more information and i will try to give a more complete answer.
