I was cleaning an oven on Thursday and everything was okay but Friday when one of the workers tried to turn it on it wasn't working so owner tried but couldn't get it to work so he end up going out to buy a new one and since I no longer work there I wanted to pick up my check but says I'm not getting a check that I cost him money to get new oven and that I destroyed it so he's not going to pay me for hours I worked I just really would like to know what to do because I feel this is not right I worked hard for those hours and should be able to be paid
This sounds like an FLSA violation. Contact an employment law attorney ASAP. The employer may prorate deductions for the cost of the damages over a period of paydays provided the prorated deductions do not reduce the employee's wages below the required minimum wage or overtime compensation in any workweek.
It looks like your employer went too far.
