First, I am really sorry that you were hurt. Second, this must be tough trying to navigate your perpetrator's rights when you were the one hurt. What my colleagues were explaining is true. Slander, and libel and all the laws to protect people from comments that would hurt their character only protect that person if the comments made are/were untrue. So if he sues you for slander or libel, if the statements you made were based in truth, he has no case. That is what is called a "defense" to the allegations.
You should also know that it depends where you make the statements. You may tell a therapist, your attorney, priest or other person who you have a confidential relationship with. If you REASONABLY think that the perpetrator may or is hurting someone else, you may report him to Human Services.
You may not go on a smear campaign. You could be charged with harassment of your statements are for the sole purpose of ruining his life.
Stay safe and good luck with your continuing recovery.
Substantial truth is a defense to slander. Most defamation lawsuits are not very productive in any event.
