I was turning on to a mechanic shop with my blinker on and a driver hit me and drove off. I do not have insurance but I had a 30 day permit on my car. We filed a police report and I’m just wondering what I can do to cover the costs for my car. We couldn’t catch the license plate of the driver but we have video footage of the accident.
Unless you can identify the other car and/or driver you're probably out of luck. I'd check the video and see if you can figure out who it was from that. Otherwise, I don't believe you have anywhere to turn without insurance of your own.
If you can not locate the at fault party and if you do not have collision coverage I'm sorry to say there is no remedy for your damages. You mentioned you were turning into a private drive. If you were making a left and the other driver was coming from the opposite direction, you would be at fault for failure to yield and even if you found the at fault party their insurance with deny liability. Not sure if that's how the accident happened based on your limited facts but figured I throw that fact out there. Best of luck to you.
Does the video catch the license plate? If so, you may want to hire an expert in video enhancement technology to try and enhance the video to read the plate. Once you have the plate number, you can teack down the owner and pursue a claim for damages.
