What happened is it was me and my 2 friends i had one shirt that i stole it was 6.99 and i had it under my sweater. My friends has stufff in their purses and they had to take everything out. I took my shirt out as well. Now i am wondering i have court in May. Will my case be different will i be charged individual or will i get the same results with my friends? Even though i did shoplift and only had one shirt underneath? I didnt bring a purse nothing. But my friends were there before but they werent caught but now when they did get caught the person said that he saw them do it before. I wasnt with them last time this was my first time. Will court view my case different since i wasnt there with them last week? Will i get my own consequence or whatever they get i get? Will it be off my recor
It is possible and even likely you can get a disposition that will be sealed.
No one can predict whether your case will be charged individually or as a group. Unfortunately, you need to pick better friends and you may be able to avoid these problems in the future.

I am a criminal defense attorney practicing in Nassau, Suffolk and New York City. The above information is not a substitution for a meeting whereas all potential legal issues can be discussed.
If this is your first offense it is likely that you would be able to receive an Adjournment in Contemplation of Dismissal. That means if you stay out of trouble for a period of six months (and possibly complete a program) the case will be dismissed and sealed as though it didn't happen. the next best thing would be a plea to disorderly conduct. This is a violation and not a crime. It too will be sealed after a year and you would not have a criminal record either. Make sure that you have an attorney. Don't try going at this alone.
You will be treated individually based on your involvement or lack of involvement in the other incidents. There are a number of outcome that will result in this case being dismissed and sealed.
