Ok so I was busted with .08 grams of coke over 10 years ago. I do have a previous DUI in ND over 10 years ago. Other than that nothing, not even a speeding ticket. I completed my probation for both and my felony drug charge was dropped to a misdemeanor drug charge. I'm wondering if I can buy a gun in CO. I live in a cabin and bears, coyotes and mtn lions are a real danger to me and my pups.
A misdemeanor drug conviction won't prevent you from owning a gun. But don't shoot any bears, coyotes, or mountain lions; keep your pups close instead.
I agree with the above answer- if it is just a misdemeanor, you can own a gun. Only a felony conviction would prevent you from owning a gun.
In addition to that, it sounds like you are eligible to have your record sealed! If you haven't been in trouble since the drug charge and it has been 5+ years, you can petition the court to have your record sealed so that the drug charge does not show up on private background checks and you can legally deny the arrest and charge ever having existed if asked. I'd recommend speaking with an attorney about having a motion to seal filed so that drug charge is off your record forever.
