Since my asylum is granted in California , I’m planning to move to NY. Should I get SSN, EAD and state iD before moving to another state?? Please advice! Thank you
First, you need to let USCIS know if you move at whichever stage of the process you are in.
Second, you do not need an EAD to work because asylum automatically grants you work authorization. With that being said, the Asylum Office should send you an EAD and Social Security card as a courtesy to your address.
If you were granted Asylum in Court, they will not send you those things and you will need to go get them.
You can go get your Social Security card at your local Social Security office. Just show them your approval from the court or from the Asylum office. You will have to apply for an EAD but you don't actually need one.
With your asylum approval letter and a social security card, you should be able to get a state-issued ID.
It is always a good idea to have your documents before making any big changes.
