I have sent a nude photo of my ex-girlfriends breasts back to her ! As I paid for her breast reduction!!! She is now having me charged!!! What can I do ? Can I represent myself in court ?
If you're being prosecuted for a sex crime (or any crime) and you represent yourself, you're "have a fool for client" whether you're a lawyer or not. This is especially true if she's a minor and you're being prosecuted for child pornography. Not only can you not be objective about your own case, but if you don't know what you're doing, and you probably don't, you could end up in prison and/or on a sex offender registry for life.
Hire criminal defense counsel ASAP, speak to no one except that lawyer, and stop posting damaging admission on public sites like this one (which cops and DAs read too, and can figure out who you are and use your admissions against you).
Avvo doesn't pay us for these responses, and I'm not your lawyer just because I answer this question or respond to any follow-up comments. If you want to hire me, please contact me. Otherwise, please don't expect a further response. We need an actual written agreement to form an attorney-client relationship. I'm only licensed in CA and you shouldn't rely on this answer, since each state has different laws, each situation is fact specific, and it's impossible to evaluate a legal problem without a comprehensive consultation and review of all the facts and documents at issue.
I strongly agree with my colleague — DO NOT represent yourself on this. It would almost certainly end being the worst mistake you ever make.
Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not. What determines Avvo Rating?Experience & background
