You should read your loan documents and see what they say in this regard. If this relates to a refi, then you could always go with a different lender.
It depends on what your loan documents say. You should consider calling the loan department as well. Sometimes you can get them to exclude it. Usually escrow is paid because the bank as an interest in your home. As in, if taxes aren't paid, they may not know about it and a tax sale could extinguish their interest in the property so they usually like to handle those things.
