Hi. I’m on a U visa (category A19, if that matters) I was told I can become a resident after 3 years and then apply for citizenship 2 after that. However, i’ve been married to a us citizen for over a year now and I’m wondering if that would help me get a green card faster or not?
Probably but would need to analyze the facts of your case. Did you have a legal entry -- have you left the U.S. since getting U status and obtained a U visa?
If you entered the U.S. lawfully, you can file for adjustment of status based on your marriage to a U.S. citizen. You then do not have to wait the three years to apply from the U status to the resident status.
