My boyfriend and I have been dating for 4 months and we have kissed and cuddled and I want to make sure that it isn't illegal and when I'm 14 I'll apply the Romeo Juliet policy but right now, is anything illegal?
You're probably fine with kissing. But the defense commonly known as "Romeo and Juliet Laws" is not a policy that you get to apply. Its a defense that can be raised if charged with a crime. The age of consent is 16. so if you have sex with your boyfriend when you turn 14 (or now obviously) he can still be charged with a serious crime. Even if he is able to win the case by utilizing a close in age defense, he would be forced to spend a lot of time and money defending himself, there would probably be a restraining order prohibiting him from speaking/seeing you while the case is going on, and he would have to face the scrutiny of the community for the charges. Wait until you're at least 16.
