I am renting an apartment from a big corporation company. About a month ago they posted a notice on starting renovating the apartment complex. Today I was given a 30 day notice saying that they will start fully remodeling my kitchen and bathroom with me leaving in the apartment which will take 10-15 business days! I have two pets (a cat and a very active dog), I work from home 2-3 days of the week during the day and have team and client calls, and I don't want to breath in chemicals, dust, paint, or be exposed any kind of disturbance while I am at my apartment.
I also want to be able to cook, eat, use the bathroom and bath at any time I want. I also don't want any noise or strangers in my apartment while I'm leaving there. I've looked at California tenant/ landlord laws, but I haven't figured out exactly what I can do in this situation.
I asked them how they will take care of me and my pets, while the work is being done to which the lady replied that my apartment is not inhabitable and I can continue living there! Looks like they are not going to take care of me at all. Plus the rent there is super expensive already. Is there a way for me to fight for my peace and quiet?
