I was wondering first time being arrested for shoplifting what could the outcome be
Nothing that you will enjoy. Hire a criminal defense attorney who practices in the locale where you were charged.
You need to contact an attorney or request an attorney be appointed if you are unable to afford one. If it is first offense it carries a maximum of 30 days or a $1000 fine. However, this is not something you want on your record. A third offense shoplifting can be charged as a 10 year felony. I would highly recommend you get an attorney before you do anything on this case.
Shoplifting will spoil your criminal record and fines or jail time would be substantial depending on number of times committed and prosecuted. You would be well advised to retain a criminal defense attorney or , if you qualify, a public defender.
