I have missed my scheduled court date because my child had an accident and needed medical care. I do not know what I should do to make sure I stay out of jail.
There was likely a warrant issued for your failure to appear. That can be set aside, provided what you're saying happened actually did happen.
Get proof of that event actually taking place and contact an attorney.
Make sure to have proof that your child was actually sick, and go down to the criminal court clerk's office and ask for a set aside.

I agree with the previous answers. You can call the clerk's office and tell them what happened and send proof of why you were not at court - or call an attorney to help you with this. There is likely an arrest warrant out for you for a failure to appear so it's best if you have an attorney work with you on this - perhaps he or she can help you avoid an arrest for a failure to appear.
