I have a vehicle that was stolen/traded by a verbal agreement with my 17yr old son who's not the owner, I am, plus I haven't even got the chance to change titles over yet! I have the application for title transfer with the original owners information and signed by him and I found out that guy who has my vehicle is hiding it and trying to file a mechanics lien or either a bonded title for it and I can't get my vehicles title into my name cause I don't have possession of the vehicle! I reported it stolen and Amarillo Police Dept. says since my son was involved that I'm probably going to have to take the guy who has my truck to court! The Amarillo Police Dept. won't give me this guys Address so I can file charges, serve him papers and take him to court! I know his name and phone number that's all! How would I go about finding his address or workplace or place of residency to serve him court papers? P.S. I have my Police Case Summary Report stating my vehicle information and Status Stolen/Etc. with My Name as the owner & nothing about the guy who took it anywhere on the report! Wouldn't I have the right to get my vehicle if I see it anywhere?
You do not have the right to take possession at this time because your name is NOT on the title. If you try to take it, the police could become involved. Use a database called "Public Data" to find information about the person who has the vehicle or get an attorney. Use the "Find a Lawyer" feature to connect with an attorney in your area. Many will offer free initial consultation.
