It is Letter Of intent I had signed in my country which states that I am bonded to be the part of my employer for one year and failing which I owe $15000/- and it claims that this is towards the recovery of the visa fee & other costs involved in processing my petition. I have completed 9 months and ready to serve one month notice period as per the offer issued.
However, my employer had sent an email that he will go with the contract and Law and file a case against me.
I need clarification on below points:
1. Is there any law in force in USA that states that employees can be trapped using the bond employer asks to sign for certain period and failing to which employee face consequences as per the terms written in contract?
2. If answer to point one is true, can you suggest better options
If you request a legal opinion about the validity of a contract, you need to take the contract to a lawyer so he/she can review the documents.
Your's is a contract question concerning a specific contract--no one on AVVO can give you a credible answer without specifically reviewing the document in question. You need a consult w/ a conract attorney.
I strongly suggest you meet with an attorney soon, and bring this letter of intent with you. Online advice for such a specific problem would be worthless.
This is not intended to be legal advice, and is general in nature.
Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals.
