I misread the date on the speeding ticket, and I thought it said the fine was due in February 2015, when actually I found out yesterday they were due in September 2014. It was an honest mistake on my part and it was not intentional at all. I don't have any arrest warrants to my knowledge, as I have not received anything in the mail or anything at all like that. What should I do next? I'm scared and do not want to go to jail over this. Please help me!
You won't go to jail for this but you should contact the court and explain the situation and see how to remedy it. It is possible that a default judgment has been entered against you because of your missed date to answer. If so, you would need to either pay the fine or try to vacate the judgement, which I would advise to hire an attorney since your excuse that you misread the ticket is not a valid reason to vacate a judgement.
Don't wait any longer though because it is possible that your license could be suspended by your refusal to handle this ticket.
I suggest you contact the court in the jurisdiction where you received your ticket. You should contact the court immediately because I've handled cases where the Driver's license was indeed suspended due to failure to pay a fine. Good Luck!
