If I hire a lawyer, can this misdemeanor be dropped to an infraction? Also, is this a serious class of misdemeanor? Will it affect me to get a career license? I'm 19 and this happened in a smoke shop in Burbank.
Talk to a local criminal defense attorney. You may have a shot at getting it reduced or dismissed but that determination can only be made after an in-depth consultation.
You could have a good shot getting the citation reduced or dismissed, but depends on several factors. You best option at this point is to look up a local criminal attorney there in Glendale and explain your situation. Most firms will not charge you a fee for consultation. You are correct, it could impact you later down the road...so make the effort now to handle it. Good luck
I think you would have a good chance at a reduction or dismissal as it is a minor misdemeanor offense. Look up a Burbank criminal attorney using Avvo or Google and give them a call. Most attorneys will offer a free consultation.
If you have no criminal record and a good attorney, I see no reason why it can't be reduced to an infraction or given diversion. Starting January 1, 2015, AB-2124 will take effect, giving the court power to give DEJ or Diversion over the People's objection to defendants who qualify. Best.
