I agree with my colleague that expungement is the only option here but that is not guaranteed. You should consult with an experienced criminal defense attorney in your area for help with this question.
You would need to pursue an expungement. Paying the citation was the equivalent of a guilty plea. The waiting period for expungement of a misdemeanor is two years, without a subsequent conviction, from the date that you paid the fine. The two year waiting period would be for a statutory expungement, otherwise you seek an expungement under the Court's inherent authority, but frankly such an expungement wouldn't do you much good since the driving record would remain and only the court records would be expunged under such a scenario. The filing fee for an expungement is $300 and it would make sense to get an attorney since representing yourself didn't work out so well the first time around.
