I got a ticket 1180(D) today in Brooklyn NY. It says I was going at 40 in 25 mph zone. I don't understand because it was all traffic coming from NJ to NY. I've only had 1 parking ticket in the past and this is my first speeding ticket. I would love to have an attorney represent me. I'll appreciate getting answers or feedbacks from attorneys based in NYC or KINGS County. Thanks
Unfortunately, NY traffic court judges almost always refuse to allow plea bargaining or downgrading a speeding ticket, and they always take the word of the police officer over that of the driver in speeding cases. So, unless you can prove that that you weren't speeding, such as by having the radar records (which you can obtain by discovery requests) or you can show that you were not the driver, you'll probably end up paying the fine AND paying for an attorney. Therefore, unless you drive for a living (such as for Uber, Lyft, a taxi company, are a truck driver, etc.) it may be in your interest to pay the fine on line and move on.
