me and two friends where sitting in front of a building waiting for another friend and a cop gave us summons for trespassing even though we where only waiting for a friend
Show up w/a lawyer and plead not guilty and fight it. Or, pay a fine or do community service if you want to wrap it up quicker.

I am a criminal defense attorney practicing in Nassau, Suffolk and New York City. The above information is not a substitution for a meeting whereas all potential legal issues can be discussed.
Based on what you describe you are presumably being charged with a violation (what kind of building it was would also have bearing on the charge). Depending on the facts and circumstances of what happened you may be able to fight this or even get it dismissed. Either way worst case scenario is you would have to pay a minor fine (or do some community service) and the whole thing would go away. It would be a big mistake to ignore the summons because if you don’t appear in court when you are supposed to a warrant will issue for your arrest. It’s no picnic if you get picked up on the warrant. If you cannot afford a lawyer, there will be one appointed to you when you get to court.
As Messrs. Piccollo and Lieberman have suggested, you have the option to plead guilty and end the case and have something on your record OR you can fght what appears to me to be no case for the prosecution. Personally, as I am some what contankerous, I would fight it. But it is your call.

I suggest you show up with a lawyer and fight the charge or the cops will never stop this type of harassment. It only stops when enough people stand up and say "NO MORE."
