I had gotten a speeding ticket in nassau county, Long island, ny. What do I do? How do I postpone the court date to a later point in time? Please give me a straight answer to my points in my question and if there is anything that you would like to add please do so.
What court is the ticket returnable at? Towards the bottom of the ticket, it will say to either either appear in person or mail in a not guilty plea by X date. Do not miss that date or your license can be suspended. Depending on the severity of the speed alleged, you may want to consider consulting with an attorney to handle the matter for you.
Follow the directions on the ticket for pleading not guilty. Keep a copy of the ticket for your records. Pursue a plea to a non moving violation or at least a non speeding violation. Alot will depend upon the number of miles per hour over the speed limit you were alleged to have been traveling and your prior driving record. You can obtain a copy of your driver’s abstract from DMV for a fee of ten dollars.
In our area driver’s receive a notice of a pretrial conference date from the court in response to the submission of a not guilty plea. The date is commonly a month or more in the future depending on the courts caseload and court schedule. I would not seek an adjournment unless date does not work for my client or me. But, I do not know the process in your area.
I am unable to say much more without seeing the actual ticket and your driver’s abstract.

You postpone by asking the court clerk to postpone. By the way an attorney can go to court instead of you and take care of this ticket for you
