Now, 24 years later, my name has been flagged on the Natl. Driver Data base. I have a copy of my IL driving record which shows the conviction and suspension (6 months). Indiana now says that they can't renew my drivers license because of this hit on the NDDB despite the fact that I have no issues in IN. IN has renewed my DL 3 times since with no problem until now.
Help...I just need to get my license renewed.
Indiana will not clear you until you resolve the case in Illinois. You should contact an Illinois DUI attorney and get that case concluded.
You will have to resolve the Champaign DUI. There is no doubt a failure to appear suspension on your record. Once you resolve the court case, you must have an administrative hearing with the Illinois Secretary of State. Since you live more than 30 miles from the border, you can submit an out of state packet. I would not recommend you try this yourself. I have handled dozens of these cases, the biggest mistake people make it trying to do the packet themselves, thereby turning something relatively straightforward into an expensive mess.
Renewals for years before they flag it are common, in Indiana and throughout the country. I have someone in CA who was able to renew for 30 years until they caught the IL revocation. We submitted a packet and they were cleared.
There is no other way around it because if Indiana renews you, they lose federal highway dollars.
I agree with attorney Harvatin, and if I were you I would contact him to represent you on this case. Your situation is no longer unusual because of the use of the NDDB.
