Short answer is no. An Illinois employer cannot deduct money from your pay check for damages to the employer's property, unless you sign an express written agreement allowing them to take said deduction at the time the deduction is made. If they have already taken the deduction without your consent I would contact a lawyer and discuss filing a claim or suit pursuant to the Illinois Wage Payment Act. 820 ILCS 115 et seq.
No you cannot be required to pay for accidental injuries to your cargo. If your employer should try to take it from your pay you can contact the Illinois Department of Labor and they will handle the matter for you at no charge.
No attorney client relationship has been formed until you sign a representation agreement.
Illinois Dept. of Labor is your best bet. If they can't help then contact a lawyer.
My answers to this question are informal and partial due to the insufficient nature of the information exchanged. These answers do not make me your lawyer. In order to make me your lawyer you have to hire me, in writing. Answers given herein are necessarily brief and cannot be complete or reliable legal advice until (a) an attorney-client relationship has been established, and (b) until complete information has been given pursuant to that relationship..
