I got a lawyer to fight a ticket. I was supposed to take defensive driving and pay a fine so it can stay off my record. I missed the deadline. I’m not working because I went back to school and can’t afford the class and the fine right now. I start working in 2 weeks. What’s going to happen or what can I do to keep it off my record? Can I ask for an extension or is it too late? Deadline was yesterday.
You would be best served by running this by the attorney that you already hired to handle this case.
If you were placed on deferred disposition probation, an extension MAY be possible.
If a mandatory defensive driving class was granted, the completion certificate of the class must show a date within 90 days from the date the Court approved the class. No exceptions. Ask these questions to your lawyer; that's what you paid her/him for. Good luck.
