I had the documents in my bottom drawer and was waiting to file my taxes. I went to get them and they are gone. I think someone took them to steal my refund. How can I stop that from happening?
Check out the IRS website (www.irs.gov) and search Identity Theft. That should give you some tips. After doing so, you should call the IRS and let them know your concerns. They should flag your account and will give you a special indicator so you can be the only one to file a tax return in your name and with your SS#. You should check out the website and make the call quickly (in the next day or so) to succeed in preventing someone else from using your identity. Good luck.
