It most cases, your request for modification is retroactive to the date that you filed the motion. Judge's are supposed to do what is fair in these cases but do not always. You are required to follow the Court Order until it is changed. If you do not, you are subject to contempt. If you are honest and have done what you are supposed to do in the past but only have this situation due to circumstances out of your control, the Judge should understand and treat you accordingly.
