In the place I work as an intern, with other interns, one day my boss left to do something NOT WORK RELATED. He completely left the site, for around 40 minutes. We were still open and basically in charge displacing his job while he took care of a personal matter. I know this is against the law, and found out when I overheard my boss's boss reprimanding him in the other room when he found out.
Interns cannot be left alone managing an office, displacing the job of a real employee.
The thing is, it was a short time, nothing bad happened, even though this was unfair to us. Do I have a lawsuit?
It is not a private business, rather I will say a local/state government environment. To protect myself I am not putting the real city.

You actually answered your own question when you said "nothing bad happened." If nothing bad happened then there were no damages and you would need to prove damages to have a valid lawsuit.

Wow.....not shamefully opportunistic for a buck at all are we? That stated NO, you don't get to sue your employer for bags of cash because of another employee's transgression. Its called "work" that's actually how you earn money - not using the millennial "point and pout" where you point at "offenses" and pout expecting a financial settlement for your angst.
