I am concerned that I will go to jail because I’m 18 and she is 17 and might be pregnant
In Indiana, the legal age of consent for sexual activity is 16. A person who is at least 16 can participate in whatever kind of LEGAL sexual activity (i.e., not prostitution or child pornography) he or she wants to, unless the older person is a teacher, coach, mentor, or some other person in a "position of trust." In that case, the younger person must be at least 18.
Keep in mind, though, that just because something is LEGAL, that doesn't automatically mean it's a good idea. There are still a lot of ways that DON'T involve the law that you and your partner can get in trouble, so you need to "choose wisely."
I'm licensed to practice law only in Indiana, and we've never met, so I can't give you "legal" advice. My answer is simply "friendly" advice based on my experience as an attorney in Indiana, my knowledge of federal and common law, and common sense. Even if you are in Indiana, employment law questions are very fact specific, and based on the limited information you provided in your post, I can't give you legal advice, and my answer is intended as general information only. It doesn't create an attorney-client relationship.
Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not. What determines Avvo Rating?Experience & background
