I have an 9 year old abstract judgment (credit card debt) and The Law firm that filed the judgement on behalf of the creditor went out of business. I called the creditor and they told me that the debt was returned to them but they are not aware of judgement. What are my chances to get that judgment released?
If you are trying to buy anything on credit, the cheapest thing to do is keep your mouth shut and wait until the judgment is 12 years. After 12 years, the judgment cannot be renewed and is no longer enforceable. This problematic because the judgment will continue to appear on your credit report until a release is filed.
So, get a copy of the judgment and abstract and try negotiating with the judgment creditor for a settlement and release.
