The child mother died and left me her daughter 10yrs old. The mother had a living will (typed and notarized. I am in the process of filling out the guardianship forms. I cant not afford a lawyer..But the law requires that I place an ad to seeif anyone would come forth to claim the child. The grandparents adn all of the family on her mom side has approved me keeping the child as well.
The child has been living with me since her moms death 06-15-2012.
I'm not sure that you've actually asked a question here. (Please see this guide for some tips: http://www.avvo.com/legal-guides/ugc/five-tips-for-how-to-ask-for-legal-advice-on-avvocom ) You will, indeed, need to attempt to find the child's father in order to make a custody claim. I do recommend you at least get an initial consultation with a lawyer to make sure this process is done properly. Many lawyers offer free or cheap ($35 to $50) initial consultations. You can call the Oregon State Bar for a free referral at 503-684-3763.
