Hello, My wife and I are currently completing the form I-864. We are not sure what to put on part 6, where it asks about federal income tax. My wife (my sponsor) recently started working a couple months ago and she has never filed for taxes before. We are not sure how to proceed with that question.
You will need a joint sponsor it appears and it would behoove you to review the giling instructions provided with the form if you go pro se. One can always provide an addendum and explain the scenario
Immigration Law, Adjunct Professor at The John Marshall Law School (2015-2017). The answer above is intended to provide only general legal information and does not create an attorney/client relationship. This answer is no substitute for a consultation with an attorney concerning the precise facts of your matter, and you should speak with a qualified, knowledgeable attorney to review all the facts in your case and obtain advice specific to your matter. Only when you formally retain me for specific legal work is an attorney/client relationship created. If you found this answer to be “Helpful” or to be the “Best Answer,” kindly mark it as such. Julia Sverdloff, Esq.
You will need to explain the details in the addendum and indicate that your wife was not required to file tax returns. A joint financial sponsor will be needed unless there are sufficient assets available.
