I rent 1br apartment unit, and the lease will expire in Dec. The leasing office put a nonrenewal notice in my resident account document folder (no email, not hard copy for me) by saying that there are more than maximum number of people live in my apartment(2 people can live there). They said I can move to a two br unit or move out the current community. But the truth is I never have more than two people live in my apartment. It is always me and my 1.5 years old child live there. the leasing office said the proof of more than two people live in my unit is I have two beds in my bedroom. This is so unfair. How can I protect my right?
They are not required to lease to you however you can talk to an attorney to negotiate on your behalf.
