I got caught speeding double than the maximum speed limit. What may my fine be and how many points will I get? Will my license be suspended if that was my first time?
A ticket of that nature carries a certain # of points depending on the speed limit doubled. Assuming a minimum speed limit of 30 and a speed of 60, it carries 6 points. If it is a 40 mph zone, it carries 8 points. Anything higher carries 11 points and an automatic suspension. That is if speeding is the only charge (VTL 1180). If there are other charges like Reckless Driving, that is a misdemeanor and you need an attorney as a conviction would give you a criminal record.
Consult with a local attorney ASAP! Good Luck.
I am a criminal defense attorney practicing in Nassau, Suffolk and New York City. The above information is not a substitution for a meeting whereas all potential legal issues can be discussed.
That will depend on what the speed limit was. If by max speed limit, you mean the state speed limit of 55 and you were doing 110 then you can expect a judge to take your license.
