I have filed a claim for unemployment benefits on March 22nd. When I filed for unemployment I was told that it takes 3 to 4 weeks for them to decide if I someone eligible for unemployment. Today it's April 26th and I was still not provided with any feedback. Every time I call the unemployment agency they tell me that my claim is still under review and they don't know when they will have the final decision. I think that whoever is reviewing my claim is not doing their work properly, because I never heard of anyone waiting for unemployment benefits 6, 7 or more weeks.
I can't speak for NY, but 4-6 weeks is typical, and it can take longer if the former employer(s) do not respond to the unemployment department.
