I was in a hit and run were I barely rubbed another cars side bumper. I got out but the two guys were really upset and yelling so I left and went home. A police officer showed up shortly after I arrived and I answered the door. We went to my car were he took my drivers license and insurance information. He said I would receive a ticket in the mail but it’s been 20 days.
The State has two years to file Hit and Run charges. The normal procedure is that the police report is forwarded to the prosecutor for review. The prosecutor then makes a decision whether or not to charge a crime. If charges are filed, the court will schedule a date and send you notice. This can take days, weeks or months. The actual times depends on how busy the officer is, how many other cases the prosecutor has to review, whether any follow up investigation is needed, etc...
