I was evicted in september of 2016. i received a call yesterday March 8th 2017, from my former landlord, saying "its tax time you can you pay your unpaid rent and damages." i cannot do so, but he was very rude. what are my rights?
SIX (6) YEARS from date of default, which is the date of the event that triggered taking you to court for eviction. If it was a lease, then, all the monies due thereunder can accelerate through the end of the lease! If it was a month-to-month rental, that isn't so horrendous an amount. The business-like way to address this is a to confront the landlord with a settlement proposal. To duck and hide from the landlord will assure that litigation commences. Seek counsel from a lanlord-tenant attorney. .
