I was evicted by the city(Los Angeles county) for living in an illegal dwelling. I have a disability & was really sick on move out day & was only able to move 1/2 of my belongings. I left my furniture, clothes, shoes, etc. I lived there 17 years. The next day I contacted the landlady to retrieve the rest of my things & she said she donated everything which was a lie. She was supposed to put it in storage anyway I thought. How long do I have to take legal action? I appreciate your response.
The California Statute of Limitations for conversion is 3-years I believe.
But do NOT wait that long. File a police report immediately and begin pursuing your remedies immediately. Right now your landlord is alive; in business; has active insurance; and the matter is something that can easily be recalled by memory.
My advice would be to document the missing items and file a police report.
